Peter Ljungberg, PhD-student

My research deals with how environmental changes may affect the juvenile stages of a commercial important fish species. The main focus is on how cod (Gadus morhua) may react on habitat shifts, induced by anthropogenic or natural causes. Within my work I have surveyed the movement of fish between different water regimes on a yearly basis, to evaluate which habitat and prey resources they utilises. The techniques I’m working with ranges from standard field survey using different fishing methods and stomach analysis, to stable isotopes when evaluating habitat depending trophic role of the fish. Further I’m conducting experimental work on predator-prey interactions, where juvenile cod serve either as predator or prey through a range of habitats.

I’m also interested in how habitat degeneration in the coastal zone, and the role of edges will affect the relationship between mainly fish and its prey resources.
