Status and Trends of European Pollinators (STEP)

Insect pollinators have been declining during the past decades, which have stirred a debate on a potential pollination crisis. The most important cause of this decline is probably the land use changes that have occurred in the agricultural landscape, with loss of semi-natural habitat and increased use of agrochemicals, resulting in loss of nesting and foraging resources for pollinators.

STEP is an EU funded research project aiming at assessing the current status and trends of pollinators in Europe, quantify the factors which influence the diversity and distribution of pollinators, identify measures which can mitigate the loss of pollinators and disseminate the results to stakeholders.
