Juliana Dänhardt, PhD

Being both a birdwatcher and a conservationist with practical farming experience, I’m happy to have the opportunity to work in a project combining these two interests! My research focuses on migrating birds, their use of agricultural landscapes and the way(s) in which today’s farming practices may affect them. By monitoring birds on farm-scale, I try to find patterns on field and habitat use of different species. I’m also interested in how farming practice (e.g. organic vs. conventional farming) and landscape type on a larger scale influence the distribution of birds during the migratory season. I am also working more specifically on Golden Plovers and their stop-over ecology in the intensively used agricultural areas in Southern Sweden, using mainly ringing data, radio-telemetry and field observations.
