About the department
The board and the head of the department run the department of Biology. The head of the department has an executive function and is responsible for the daily activities. His areas of responsibilities and his authority is regulated by the Faculty of Science's delegation order (.pdf in Swedish). According to this delegation the head of the department shall manage and develop the work and is responsible for the resources of the department.
The department shall have a deputy administrative head of the department in addition to the head of the department. The deputy administrative head of the department is especially responsible for the undergraduate studies. The head of administration and the management group are the support of the head of department. There is also a number of preparing groups (see image below).
The department board make decisions about the budget, strategic planning, principles and policies. The delegation order regulate the distribution of responsibilities between the head and the board of the department.
The research groups within the department are organised in units managed by a head. The units are organised from subject fellowship and usage of joint infrastructure.
