A Bachelor's Degree including a completed major (equivalent to approximately three terms of full-time studies or 90 higher education credits) in one discipline in Social Sciences or equivalent.
Eligible disciplines within the Social Sciences
From the autumn 2011 eligibility will also require a minimum average grade in the Bachelor´s studies equivalent to 3.0 out 4 in cumulated grade point average (CGPA), C in the ECTS grading scale, and B in the American grading scale. For students with Swedish undergraduate studies the minimum requirement is G.

In addition to the general supporting documents specified at studera.nu, all applicants for the Master's Programmes in Development Studies, Social Studies of Gender and Global Studies must submit a Statement of Purpose.

Instructions for the Statement of Purpose: The Statement of Purpose should be kept short, not more than 300 words. You should describe why you want to study this particular master's programme and how these studies may contribute to your future plans. The Statement of Purpose should be written in English. Be sure that your complete name is visible along with the name of the Master's programme and the application code. The Statement of Purpose should be enclosed with your application package and sent to University Studies in Sweden in Stroemsund. When applying to several programmes, please write a separate statement for each programme.

Criteria for Selection
Students will be selected based on the following criteria: previous study results (grades in the Bachelor’s Degree); proficiency in English; estimated capacity to complete the programme.
Since the Master of Science programmes are multidisciplinary programmes it is essential to attain an even distribution among different majors within the group. The number of admitted applicants from one major shall not exceed 30 % of all students admitted to the master's programmes in Development Studies and Global Studies. Hence the applicant s major will be used as a selection criterion in case of many applicants from one major. The following disciplines are eligible as majors: Gender Studies, Development Studies, Human Geography, Education, Political Science, Social Work, Social Anthropology, Sociology and Sociology of Law.
