I grew up on the countryside in a small village just at the rim of an endless forest outside Uppsala, Sweden. I learned about forest life in early years from my father and he did a good job, I have been amazed by Nature ever since. I am fortunate to work in such an interesting field as sensory biology. Animals’ perception of the World - mediated by any sense – varies between species, which I find immensely thrilling and a challenge for abstract thinking.
I am a post-doc working with Almut Kelber with studies on bird vision and the mechanisms of colour vision. My aim is to clarify the relationships between different types of photoreceptors and their roles within the visual system, the relationship between different visual abilities such as spatial vision and colour vision, and how vision theory can be used to make prediction about visual ecology. My methods include behavioural tests, visual modelling, morphological techniques, microscopy studies and spectrophotometry. My research will contribute to a deeper understanding of how colour vision has developed in birds and how it functions, both at the mechanistic level and in a broader ecological context.
