An Aesthetics of Sexual Difference? On Art and Artistry in Swedish Handicraft of the 1920s and 1990s

My PhD project, completed 2007, examined the visual and material culture of Swedish handicraft in relation to the avant garde and contemporary art of specific time periods. The results show that the aesthetics of sexual difference is not evident in individual works of handicraft but rather in their being organized differently as compared to art, maintained in writings and visualizations.
