Ann-Sofi Härstedt

The singer and vocals pedagogue Ann-Sofi Härstedt builds her teaching on a great music dramatic experience. She's been a soloist at Vadsteena Academy, Ystad Opera, Northern Sweden Opera, Gothenburg Opera and in several productions at Malmö Opera.
Ann-Sofi teaches basic voice technique, interpretation and vocals methodology. She holds university courses in vocals methodology and solo vocals, primarily for church musicians and also tutors the schools future vocals pedagogues'. As a methodology instructor and tutor, Ann-Sofi works with vocal training on all levels, methodology for amatuers and choral singers, as well as for classically focused soloists.

Ann-Sofie began her training with a cantor's degree and after that she graduated in vocal methodology and as a music teacher from Malmö Academy of Music. During her training at the Opera College in Gothenburg she deepened her knowledge in Elsa Österling's movement- and breathing technique and she also gained knowledge in Alexander technique and yoga. Through the scholarship from the Swedish Arts Grants Commitee, she' studied classic vocals for Vera Rosza in London and italian bel canto technique for Dan Marek in New York. During her years as a freelance vocalist, Ann-Sofi has worked with different musicians in many different instrument constellations. She is very interested in contemporary music and she has been a soloist in the premieres of operas and chamber music concerts by composers such as Lars-Johan Werle, Erland von Koch, Jonas Forsell, Thomas Lindahl, and Paula af Malmborg-Ward. Together with the pianist Inga-Britt Niemand she has explored the possibility of romance in programme's such as "Sju rosor och sju eldar", "La Flora" and "Mariablomster".

In 2007 the two of them took part in the Romance Marathon in Malmö with the show "Köttet luktar bränt" – rykande färskt 2000-tal.

In 2008 Ann-Sofi received the Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s scholarship for working with this production.
With the guitarist Carsten Gröndahl and the flautist Jörgen Tånnander – Trio Nordica, she's toured in Sweden and Denmark and made several radio recordings. She's also collaborated with the organist Karin Johansson in the programme "Women’s Voices in the Bible". At the moment she's touring in the direction from Musik i Syd, along with the harpist Susan Scarborough-Enochsson in a performance for junior high schools.

From 2007-2009, Ann-Sofi participated in the project "Student´s Ownership of Learning?", an international research project about instrumental teaching and learning at higher education level.
