Professor of piano – specialisation jazz
HÅKAN RYDIN was born in 1951 and obtained a degree in music teaching in 1978. He has worked at the Malmö Jazz Institute, the Skurup Folk High School and has been employed by the Malmö Academy of Music since 1979. He has also given courses in piano and improvisation. In cooperation with Dage Jonsson he has developed the educational material "Gehörsspel på piano", part 1 "Visor" and Part 2: "Rock and Jazz". From 1971 to 1994 he was a member of the Nexus group and together with them he has made several recordings.
In great demand as a pianist, HÅKAN RYDIN, has played with Thad Jones, Pepper Adams, Red Mitchell, Enrico Rava, Georgie Fame and Dave Liebman among others. His way of playing has been characterized as "lyrical and cooking". His collaboration with the American singer Kim Parker began in 1988 with a tour in Sweden and since then, they have given performances together in, omong other countries, France, Spain, Italy, Russia, USA and Canada. Their first CD "Beautiful Friendship" (FLCCD 146) was treated very positively by the critics, with brilliant reviews, for example in the renowned jazz magazine "Cadence" in New York. The CD has been released in about 10 countries, including Japan and Taiwan.
HÅKAN RYDIN was appointed Professor of piano – specialisation jazz – in 2013.
