Dan-Dan Zhang, Post-doc

I got my Master’s degree in 2007 at Hubei University, Wuhan, China, where I cloned and analyzed the sequence of sodium channel gene related with knockdown resistance in a spider, Ummeliata insecticeps.

From the year 2007 to 2010, I did my PhD at Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China. I’ve been working on the pheromone receptors (PRs) in moths, in which the male individuals respond to the female produced sex pheromone by the PRs expressed in olfactory sensory neurons. I cloned PR genes in two sibling species, Helicoverpa armigera and Helicoverpa assulta based on degenerate primer, analyzed the expression pattern of these PR genes by quantitative real-time PCR, and identified the functions of these PRs by Xenopus laevis oocytes expression system coupled with two-electrode voltage clamp recording.

My current postdoc research concerns the screening and functional analysis of PRs in Lepidopterans.
