Åsa Hagström, Doctoral Student
I was born in 1983 and grew up in the city of Landskrona. In 2003 I began my time at Lund University studying history for a year. After moving to Malmö in 2004, where I’m still living, I shifted from history to chemistry (still at Lund University), followed by various courses in biology, molecular biology and genetics. I finished by doing a combined bachelor and master project about self-replicating elements in the exotic yeast Dekkera bruxellensis in 2007-2008.
A popular science summary of this work
I then continued as PhD student in Chemical Ecology and Ecotoxicology working with moths and pheromones in 2008, although with a strong emphasis on the molecular biology side of this. Since the beginning of my studies here in the Pheromone group, I’ve been involved in projects about Fatty Acyl Desaturases and Fatty Acyl Reductases in various moths such as the small ermine moths (Yponomeuta spp.), the Turnip Moth (Agrotis segetum), four closely related Heliothines (Heliothis virescens, Heliothis subflexa, Helicoverpa armigera, and Helicoverpa assulta), as well as a caddis fly, Rhycaophila nubila.
Other interests: family (boyfriend and cat so far), music, photography, and various creative activities.
